Gear List
Here are the things you will need for camping:
- A sleeping bag
- A mattress pad (I have an extra mattress
pad which you can use.)
- A flashlight with batteries (it gets dark
at night)(small enough to take hiking)
Special Clothes:
- a set of long underwear of some sort (in
case it gets cold)
- long sleeve undershirts (they make the
bugs less annoying. I have EMS polypro top)
- a couple pair of warm wool (or high tech)
socks (for warmth and hiking)
- a bathing suit
- a towel
- jeans (for daily wear)
- shorts (for daily wear and hiking)
- a warmth layer (wool sweater or fleece
top or down liner)
- warm shirts(s) (chamy or ....)
- a warm hat (I like a wool watch cap cause
you can sleep in it)
- warm gloves
- A rain jacket, and perhaps, rain pants
- optional: a windbreaker
- Hiking boots (around camp, day hikes)
- Sandals or something else to wear in the
water
Other things:
- Sunglasses
- Money (fees, driving stops, showers)
- A pocket knife
- any prescription drugs you might need
- something to read
- cards & games
- a camera and film
- a fork, knife and spoon (from kitchen
is fine)
- a drinking cup (unbreakable, thermal)
(I may have extras)
- junk food (cookies, candy, liquor, cigars,
nuts, etc.)
- insect repellent
- sun screen lotion
For day hiking:
- a day hike bag (anything comfortable will
do)
- a canteen or other water bottle
- a small first aid kit (I'll have one so
you don't need one, but a small one is cheap)
- a compass (if you know how to use it)
- a map of Baxter State Park (if you want)
- (everything else should be listed above)
If you go to REI or EMS they have equipment lists for hiking and
camping freely available. These lists are excellent.
