notes about the campground

Adirondack Trip 2005 - Campground Notes

Notes about the Lake Durant State Campground:

• They have recycling of glass, plastic, garbage and trash.

• Canoe's cost #35 per day.

• Firewood costs $6 per bundle (the highest we saw anywhere).

• Water spigots were well spaced, and the water quality was good.

• The fire pits were well constructed.

• Traffic noise from route 28 across the lake was somewhat annoying.

• They have no lifeguard at their beach, and their sign say "no swimming" (including the quotes!).  The water was clean and the bottom sandy - great for swimming.

• There were only two showers per sex.  They cost 25 cents but one quarter seemed to be enough.  There was no control over the water temperature, which was either very hot to very cold.

• The bathrooms were good, although the toilet paper was rough.  Our nearest bathroom had 3 toilets, one urinal, and two sinks.  There was only cold water in the sinks, and no soap or towels were supplied.

• There was lots of wildlife in the campground: ducks, frogs, fish, bugs, dragonflies, bees and wasps, birds, and bats.   Some people had their dogs.

• The main road through the park was paved, with a 15 mph speed limit, which some people ignored.

• There were lots of families with kids, and lots of interesting tents.

• There were a few tent trailers, a few regular trailers, and even one fifth-wheel.
